What is a digital signature?

A digital signature is a signature that is processed digitally or virtually, either through a website or a digital signature application. All digital signature processes are carried out via the internet without the need of a face-to-face meeting.

Mekari e-Sign (PT Mekari Digital Identity) is a Certified Electronic Signature service provider partnering with PT Tilaka Nusa Teknologi as a Certificate Authority (CA) from the Indonesian Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo).

Mekari e-Sign also provides electronic signature, eMeterai, electronic contract, audit trail, and online stamp (coming soon).

The signature can be recognized as valid evidence. This is covered by UU No. 11 of 2008 (UU ITE). In this law, several legal requirements for TTE are listed:

  • The signature creation data is only known to the owner of the signature
  • Only the owner of the signature has the right to use the TTE
  • All changes that occur after the creation of the signature can be known
  • Then, all changes related to electronic information related to electronic signatures can also be known
  • There’s a way to find out the owner of the sign
  • There’s a way to know if the owner has approved the related electronic information
  1. Visit a digital signature site or app. Mekari Sign is one of the digital signature providers, therefore you can log in to Mekari Sign with an existing account.
  2. Before you can upload documents, you must complete eKYC (electronic Know Your Customer) first.
  3. Upload the document to be signed. Documents in various formats like PDF, doc, jpeg, and jpg can be signed with Mekari Sign.
  4. Select the recipient or signers of the document.
  5. Sign the document in the designated area. Also add information if needed such as date, initials, or company name.
  6. Send the document to other recipients.
  7. Download the document or save the document on the provided storage system.

1. Use Hashing
Hash is a series of letters and numbers as a result of the mathematical algorithm on a file, such as documents, messages, and emails. Hash is always unique and does not have the same combination of letters and numbers between each other so the digital signatures in e-commerce agreements will be safe.

2. Advanced Cryptographic Encryption
Once a hash is formed, it will be encrypted using advanced cryptographic methods. This method implements a Public Key and Private Key key pair system.

3. Public Key Infrastructure Settings
In short, Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) is a technology that enables users and servers to exchange information securely through digital certificates. PKI settings also apply to cryptographic methods.

According to the policy contained in UU No. 10 of 2020 concerning Stamp Duty; a 10,000 stamp duty will be imposed on documents declaring an amount of money with a nominal value of more than IDR 5,000,000.00 which:

  • Mention a receipt of money; or
  • Contains an acknowledgment that the debt has been fully or partially paid or calculated.

  3. Specify the Amount you want to purchase
    Click the number of eMeterai that you want to buy. Make sure the amount is sufficient for your needs. When finished, select Pay Now.
  4. Complete your payment
    Select your payment method, then finish the payment. The eMeterai balance will automatically be added to your account.
